NOSTALGIA RESTAURANT
2019 | Tehran | Yousef-abad
The housing typology in the old neighborhoods of Tehran is similar to the Khane-Bagh model. Often in every building, "imagination" plays an effective role in creating a sense of "memorability" in different periods of a building's life, and it can be used as a tool to adapt to different generations with architecture as well as the changes in society and social life in different periods.
The nostalgia restaurant project was supposed to be born in one of the old neighborhoods of Tehran, Yousef Abad. We named it Nostalgia because its mission was supposed to be a reference to the past and nostalgia. We started the design process with the analysis of old buildings. Houses and gardens were two general themes that could be traced in the old buildings of the region. We extracted "spaciousness" from the garden and "evocative forms" from the house.
Our effort was to create a space for dialogue between form and space and a new narrative of a building with a different use in an original context. Where new memories were supposed to happen for new generations.
we found the circulation of houses in the gardens. So, the forms suspended in the space, each of which had a special role, became meaningful as "OBJECT" inside "SUBJECT".
For the construction process, light metal structures and fabric surfaces were predicted, which could show imagination and suspense in the context of the design goals and provide more flexibility to the collection over time for the changes needed for future developments.
