UNBOX VILLA
Chaharmahal-o-Bakhtiari | Lordegan, Shovarez Village | 2022
“…The air temperature is -12 degrees Celsius, accompanied by dense cloud cover and significant precipitation in the form of snow. As a result, the transportation arteries stand suspended until further communication…”
The present document elucidates the meteorological status prevalent on a winter day within the region of Shovarez. Where the project land is located and the employer wanted to construct a villa in a segment of the land, which offered a scenic view of the adjacent river. The project encountered notable challenges, including the intricacies of the topography and mountainous terrain, as well as a notable deficit in feasible land for construction to satisfy the client's specific requirements. Another notable concern was the method of project implementation and construction in this area, which was an important and fundamental issue due to the distance from the main cities and the lack of skilled and resident labor.
The client requested a project plan that encompassed additional space beyond the existing capacity of the designated project site. In this way, we decided to define the project in the form of an active and flexible module. The present design considers a dynamic enclosure that is analogous to the components of a car, thereby offering the ability to be opened and closed. This enclosure design seeks to address the potential constraints of land dimensions by allowing for the outer edges of the box to be opened and therefore increase the overall usable space of the project. In this way, by converting the light side walls into a usable floor, suspended terraces were created that could offer the natural views of the area in the desired directions depending on the choice of the audience, while also expanding the floor space of the villa as necessary.
The dynamics of the walls, while controlling the volume and transparency of the space, enable the audience to regulate temperature and illumination during the summer and winter seasons fruitfully. Subsequently, the decision was made to implement a sloped roof and expand the end of the enclosure. These adjustments were made to optimize the structure's potential in enhancing the range of visual depth towards the unspoiled natural surroundings, while also regulating the illumination levels.
For the implementation of the project, we planned to build all the components of the space in a prefabricated way with simple, portable, and connectable mechanisms. Subsequently, with the aid of a locally assembled team, these parts were expedited to the designated space within a limited timeframe, whereby they were integrated to form a harmonious assemblage of components that would serve as the villa.
