In Praise of Water and Mirror

IN PRSISE OF WATER & MIRROR

2025 | Tehran | Doman Center

The design of Aylin Abrishami Silver Store was entrusted to our office in the winter of 2024. The project began as an empty cube with a high ceiling, located on the ground floor of the newly built Doman Complex in Shahrak-e Gharb. The client’s request was that the design of her silver gallery reflect her artistic manifesto: the spirit of the Persian Garden.

The central question was how to create a spatial experience that not only fulfilled the function of a retail store but also engraved a lasting image of the brand in the minds of its visitors, resonating with the essence of the Persian garden. How can architecture become a vessel that transforms the act of purchasing into a narrative journey for the audience?

Our key was “In Praise of Light and Mirror”: to build a space where reflection and brilliance take center stage, where the boundary between object and imagination, reality and image, viewer and artwork dissolves placing the visitor in the very heart of a silver pool.

In pursuit of this vision, we designed a reflective shell of glossy panels that acted like a living organism, as though the store contained a second inner layer. Light slid across these surfaces, generating a new genome for the store. In this way, every movement, every product, and every customer became part of a larger image—an infinite play of reflections.

The first step toward realizing this idea was selecting a material with the highest reflective quality. Although mirrors were ideal, the project’s financial and time constraints made their use impossible. Instead, we chose multistyle sheets—a lightweight, cost-effective, and easily installable alternative that allowed us to remain faithful to the design vision.

The result is a hybrid gallery space: white walls that, like a calm silence, provide a neutral stage for the products, and adventurous geometries that, through light and reflection, set the scene for sensory and visual encounters with customers.

Experiencing this space is not merely an act of shopping, but a multilayered journey of discovery, confrontation, and the touch of one’s inner adornment: Human’s True Self
